Our family has a long association with the Lockhart River/Iron Range area that started back in the 1960’s, over 50 years ago. And we have been in the area ever since.
Our Grandfather’s company, Queensland Pastoral Supplies (QPS), was instrumental in the setup and building of the local community, Lockhart River Mission. Our father, Peter Huybers senior went to the area in 1969, when he won that building contract to oversee the project and ended up staying, becoming an integral part of the area.
The original Lockhart River community was 40 miles to the south at Orcard Point.
It was moved from its old site to be closer to the airstrip, for medical emergencies and easier access to roads.
At that time, our father bought the property, King Park, and bred cattle in naturally cleared pastures.
He planted legumes for their feed and the lush pastures turned out to be excellent grazing country, with its high rainfall and fertile lands.
The cattle prospered in this tropical environment. Then he innovatively barged the cattle to Cairns for sale instead of droving them that large distance on horseback.
Our family name is well known in the area. We have a long and close working relationship with the local indigenous people of the area since arriving 50 years ago and still do today.
In the 1960’s our family owned large acres of leasehold land including many thousands of acres of future National Park including the Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range) National Park.
We decided it was best this area was preserved for its natural beauty, and in the 1970’s did a landmark deal with the Qld government of the time to give back the rainforest land we owned (Iron Range National Park) to the government for them to declare this area a National Park, in exchange for freehold land title.
As a result, our land parcels are freehold, not leasehold and constitute rare and unique opportunities that offers true Cape York Freehold Title to new owners who decide to make this pristine area part of their life.
We have many contacts in the area and know all the relevant builders and maintenance people and can assist new owners get up and running in building their new dream housing project.
